Captain James Small Firing Range
Range Rules & Regulations
Training in the use of firearms is inherently dangerous in itself. Safety has to be the primary focus of any firearms training class. Students must stay focused at all times and listen to the firearms instructors, following all directions.
Firearms safety rules are basic for any firearms training class:
- Treat all guns as if they were loaded.
- Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
- TFOTG = Keep your finger off the trigger! (Trigger Finger Outside Trigger Guard)
- Be certain of your target and what is beyond.
Students attending classes at the Capt. James Small Firing Range must be aware of the following range etiquette and rules:
Proper attire – No shorts, sandals, tank tops. Students should wear long pants, shirt, ball cap or other hat, sneakers or proper footwear to avoid tripping.
- Eye and hearing protection is required.
- A holster is required.
- A belt to hold up your pants to secure the holster is required.
Students have access to a restroom located at the rear of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, next door to the range. The restroom is available 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
First aid kits are located in the classroom and also on the range at the 25 yd line.
