Frequently asked questions regarding Village of Delhi Police Department Training Division New York State 18 Hour Pistol Permit Class.
What is the class for?
This is the required class that is needed for all those seeking to obtain a full carry pistol permit. This training is mandated by New York’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act.
The curriculum includes firearm safety, handling, maintenance, state and federal laws, and self-defense scenarios. Students will need to complete all 18 hours of classroom, pass a written exam and also pass the live fire proficiency practical exam. This class is fully approved by the licensing authorities of Delaware County and will be instructed by New York State Firearms Instructors.
How long is the class?
This class is 18 Hours (classroom instruction and live-fire training). Typically 8am to 5pm each day.
Students are required to complete all 18 hours of classroom instruction in order to receive your certificate.
Prior to completion of the class we will need you FULL LEGAL NAME as it will appear on your pistol permit. If we receive this we will provide you with your certificate upon completion of the class.
How much does the class cost?
$250.00
$100.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot in the class.
The balance of the cost ($150.00) is due the first day of class and is payable in cash or check. (You will NOT receive your certificate if this is not paid.)

What do I need to bring
- Notepad and pen
- Snacks (A lunch break will be afforded to you, but lunch
is not provided.) - Eye and ear protection, if you have them. (Will be provided for those not having their own.)
- A rain jacket and a ball cap.
What NOT to bring: PERSONAL FIREARMS ARE PROHIBITED
Handguns may only be possessed on the premises by individuals holding a valid New York State pistol permit, in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Failure to comply with this requirement is a direct violation of range policy and New York State Penal Law, and you may be subject to arrest.
A firearm will be provided to students for the live fire proficiency practical exam portion of the class.
What if the class is cancelled?
In the event the class is cancelled by Captain Small you will be notified ASAP and given the option to hold your space in the next scheduled class or you may contact the Village Clerks for a refund.
When will I receive my Pistol Permit?
Completion of this Course does not guarantee that a concealed carry license will be issued to you.
