Firearms Instructor Course (FIC)

10-day Firearms Instructor Course designed to train all new instructors that have not previously completed an approved DCJS Firearms Instructor course.

July 14th, 2025 – July 25th, 2025

Class begins at 8:00 am on Monday July 14th, 2025 at the James H. Small Firearms Training Center located at 42034 State Highway 10 Delhi NY 13753.

To attend the training, the officer must have completed an approved DCJS Instructor Development Course (IDC) prior to attending this training. Students must obtain 90% Firearms Qualification at the beginning of the course to further
training. Attendance for both weeks is mandatory, and the instructor candidate must be on agency time. Due to safety concerns any holster in which the retention devices need to be defeated by the trigger finger (example: Blackhawk SERPA) are prohibited.

Students need to bring:

  • Range Gear, Vest, Hearing and Eye Protection
  • 1000 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • 50 rounds of Duty ammunition

Registration fee is $400.00 per person. We do require a non-refundable $50.00 deposit to hold your place in the class. Purchase orders or credit card payments through GOVPAYNOW are accepted.

The Office of Public Safety is seeking newly selected instructor candidates to attend this course. The course was developed by a panel of subject matter experts and consists of 10 days of training. It combines lectures and practical exercises with a focus on operational safety, modern police firearms tactics and techniques, and proper instruction on fundamentals designed to give trainers the skills to develop and conduct firearms training.
